NFL 2022 season: The 5 most disappointing teams through 5 weeks
By Sean Basile
No. 3 most disappointing NFL team so far: New Orleans Saints
Maybe a controversial selection here, but I was someone who certainly was in on the Saints heading into this season.
Sean Payton is overrated to me.
Dennis Allen and Pete Carmichael have been in New Orleans forever.
Jameis was coming back after getting injured in a very encouraging showing in 2021.
I figured this team would be just fine without Payton, but clearly, they’re having problems. Perhaps I’m not even wrong and they’re just more “injured” than “failing” because the threesome of Winston, Kamara, and Thomas has not been on the field like I expected it to be.
379 total yards per game is pretty good.
136.2 rushing yards per game is pretty good.
242.8 passing yards per game is middle of the pack. So too is 23 points scored per game.
The defense is a similar story- middle of the pack with moments of being “pretty good” outside of this past week against a flash-in-the-pan Seahawks offense.
This team is a lot better than what their record shows at 2-3 right now. Health is their biggest concern. If Kamara and Thomas can’t get themselves together, this is going to be a major missed opportunity season for the Saints.
