NFL 2022 season: The 5 most disappointing teams through 5 weeks
By Sean Basile
No. 4 most disappointing NFL team so far in 2022: Cincinnati Bengals
I view Joe Burrow as the most overrated quarterback in football. His current 46.2 QBR and 2021 54.3 QBR would back me up on that. This Bengals team, on the other hand, is certainly a top-10 roster in football and Zac Taylor is one of the most underappreciated coaches.
Despite Burrow being overrated, there is no reason this team should have lost both games of the season to two backup quarterbacks. I get it that TJ Watt was with the Steelers at the time and Cooper Rush has turned into somewhat of a revelation for the Cowboys, but come on……..those should have been two easy wins Cincy and they should have started 2-0.
Taylor and Brian Callahan set up great offensive play designs. The elite receiving core of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd can get themselves even more wide open from there. There isn’t a receiver who isn’t wide open on every single play in this offense.
As the defending AFC champions who knocked off the Chiefs at Arrowhead in dramatic fashion to get to the Super Bowl, even I expected a little more oomph from this team coming into 2022.
They’re averaging 335.6 yards on offense per game, which is bottom third.
They’re averaging 91.8 rushing yards per game after Joe Mixon was third in yards last season.
They could only score 20 points on the worst pass defense in the league last night against the Ravens. They could easily be 1-4 right now and their schedule doesn’t exactly lighten up further down the line. Unless something drastically changes, this Bengals team is in-line to finish around .500 if not below it.
