NFL 2022 season: The 5 most disappointing teams through 5 weeks
By Sean Basile
No. 5 most disappointing NFL team so far: Denver Broncos
You knew it was coming, folks. What in the world is happening with the Denver Broncos right now?
They’re 31st in points per game (15.0) and Russell Wilson has a whopping 36.5 QBR through five weeks. Watching the opening game against the Seahawks was eye-opening with the play calls down the stretch.
The Texans’ game the week after was even more eye-opening with the inability to blow out a bottom-five team at home.
The 49ers game the week after that was a painful display of offense that luckily culminated in a victory.
The Raiders’ game in Week 4 was their best performance, but ultimately it resulted in a loss.
And this week at home against the Colts was yet another indictment on just how badly Nathaniel Hackett is coaching and Russell Wilson is playing.
What we’re seeing in Denver right now is one of the worst situations I can remember in recent years.
It’s a combination of an abysmal play-calling/coaching performance on the part of Nathaniel Hackett and an equally abysmal playing performance on the part of a quarterback I view as a Hall-of-fame lock in Russell Wilson.
I didn’t think this Broncos team would be as good as advertised. I didn’t love the fit for Russ. But at the same time, in no way did I expect it to be going this bad so quickly.
Everybody who says “Russ is washed” is most definitely justified. It sucks to say, but the man has simply been one of the worst quarterbacks in football this year through five weeks. This hyped-up Broncos season has taken a dramatic turn for the worse.
