The 2022 NFL season continues to be everything, but predictable. We saw a Panthers’ team with the departure of Christian McCaffery, dominate Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, the Commanders beat the Packers, and the Seahawks are 4-3 and in first place in the NFC West.
After trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, it was for certain that Seattle was heading into an inevitable rebuild. However, while the Broncos sit at 2-5, the Seahawks are 4-3 with a division lead in the NFC West.
NFL Week 7 takeaways: Seattle is the NFL’s most surprising team
One of the reasons that no one saw this coming was the fact that Geno Smith would be at the helm of the offense with a subpar defense. Smith has shown no glimpses of being competent at the NFL level prior to this season. The nine-year veteran has proved so many people wrong, compiling 11 touchdowns, 1,712 passing yards, a 73.5 completion percentage, and leading a Seattle offense that averages 26.1 points per game, ranking fifth in the NFL.
The Seahawks are coming off a dominant 37-23 win over the Chargers, and there is little reason to expect this team to slow down. Now, D.K. Metcalf did suffer a knee injury that Pete Caroll did say did not require surgery. As good as that news is, Metcalf will still most likely miss some time, so the passing game may take a hit. The rushing attack may be better than ever with the explosion of Kenneth Walker. Since taking over after Rashaad Penny’s season-ending injury, and starting the last two games, the rookie running back has 44 attempts for 265 yards and three touchdowns.
Seattle has a great opportunity to continue its surprise season when they host the Giants in week eight. Despite New York being 6-1, Seattle arguably has a great chance of winning with all the injuries the Giants accumulated in week seven. In addition, the Giants may be unable to keep up with Seattle’s high-flying offense.
