The Kansas City Chiefs will always be contenders as long as Patrick Mahomes is around but adding talent at the NFL Trade Deadline could also help

After Russell Wilson joined the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs were supposed to have some serious competition in the AFC West. Wilson joined a division that had Justin Herbert and Derek Carr who are all good quarterbacks, but they still had to contend with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Now seven games into the season, Kansas City is in first place at 5-2 with the Chargers on their heels at 4-3 — while the others are stuck with just two wins. While it appears they’re still the team to beat in the West, the Chiefs could look to add more talent to try and keep up with other contenders such as the Buffalo Bills.

Here we look at three players they could add before the Nov. 1 deadline in an effort to chase another ring.

3. Jack Conklin, OT, Cleveland Browns

Andrew Wylie has been starting at right tackle for the Chiefs this season and while he’s not awful, there’s room for improvement. One player potentially available that would be a significant upgrade is Jack Conklin currently of the Cleveland Browns.

Following their fourth-straight loss, the Browns are now 2-5 and look to be sellers at the deadline. Conklin, a former two-time All-Pro, has been stellar for Cleveland but is in the final year of his deal. He wants to stay but they could save some money by going with James Hudson, who performed well in the first couple of weeks as Conklin recovered from a knee injury that cut his 2021 season short.

Should Cleveland be willing to move on, Kansas City would be wise to see what it would take to add the former first-round pick.
