NFL player no. 3: Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals

32. Scouting Report. Cardinals. Kyler Murray. Pick Analysis. QB. 3. player

Contract: 5 years/$230.5 million

Kyler Murray dominated the headlines in the offseason in the most juvenile way possible. Threats of a holdout, letters from his agent, and even when he ultimately received the ridiculous contract he believed he deserved he was upset about a clause exposing his poor study habits.

How does Kyler Murray reward the Cardinals who rewarded him despite his immaturity? Still in the mix but are currently in last place in the NFC West with a record of 3-4. As far as personal stats go Murray is ranked 9th in passing yards with 1,667 however he does not reach any ranking higher than 9th when it comes to touchdowns (17th with 7) and interceptions (13th with 4).

Murray is not playing at what would be described as an “elite” level nor is his play consistent with a quarterback being paid $160 million fully guaranteed. Besides his substandard play, Murray has no problem displaying his inability to contain his emotions with his own coach during a game televised during prime time.

The significant contract may have been a bit premature as Kyler clearly needs to mature and spend more time in the offseason training instead of negotiating.
