5 NFL stars failing to live up to massive contracts in 2022
NFL player no. 1: Kenny Golladay, WR, New York Giants
Contract: 4 years/$72 million
The Giants are having a season for the record books standing at 6-1, a feat none would have thought they would have accomplished at this point in the “Brian Daboll era.” Not this quickly at least. While the Giants are playing some of their best football one of their players is playing his worst while getting paid like one of the best.
While this contract is not news to anyone it is still nauseating to think about the return the Giants are getting on the player that is supposed to be their number-one receiver. In 2022 wide receiver Kenny Golladay has 2 receptions on 6 targets for 22 yards. That’s it. Golladay has only played in three of the seven games this season due to various reasons ranging from getting benched to a suspicious injury.
It’s not as if Golladay is working hard and making plays but quarterback Daniel Jones is missing him or something; Golladay doesn’t appear to care when he is on the field. He can’t create separation, he doesn’t appear interested, yet still believes he should be on the field when Daboll has benched him for poor production. I wonder why…
The likely assumption is the Giants don’t want to risk Golladay getting injured in the hope that a team trades for him.
The question is which team? This contract is enough to make anyone’s head hurt as Golladay is promised $40 million guaranteed in an already incredibly lucrative deal. Even if you take 2022 out of it Golladay signed this deal in 2021 and logged zero touchdowns in that season as well. As far as cost compared to production this contract is hands down the worst one ever. WORST. EVER.
