The NFL world is like vultures when it comes to anything Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson says or does these days. It’s hard to blame them. Ever since Wilson’s “Let’s Ride” video went viral over the offseason, it feels like people in the media and former teammates of Wilson’s (some now in the media) are fishing for reasons to bash the guy. Because Wilson’s Broncos are now 2-5 with the 32nd-ranked scoring offense in the league, Mr. Unlimited has become one of the easiest targets and he’s providing “content creators” with the lowest of low-hanging fruit.

As the Denver Broncos get ready for a Week 8 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wilson met the media and outlined his entire routine for the 8-hour flight from Denver to London.

Russell Wilson got a workout in on the Broncos’ flight to London

So here’s a breakdown of Wilson’s 8-hour flight:

  • Hours 1-2: Film study
  • Hours 3-6: Workout/Rehab (injured hamstring)
  • Hour 7: Nap
  • Hour 8: More film study

Quite frankly, if the Broncos had room on their team flight for Russ to be getting in a workout, he needed to be doing whatever it takes to get ready for this game. The Broncos are 2-5 and their season is barely hanging by a thread, if that. The offense hasn’t been good, and Russ has been a part of their struggles, but having him play against the Jaguars is paramount.

Did everyone just expect Russ to throw on a movie after doing some film study and sit there the whole time? Is everyone simply taking issue with the fact that Russ noted he was doing high knees up and down the aisles while people were “knocked out” sleeping?

I think no matter what Wilson had said, the NFL world would be going crazy on Twitter because every time this guy comes up anymore, it’s an opportunity for people to make fun of him one way or another. If this was inconsistent with the way Russell Wilson has always been, it would be one thing. This is how Wilson has always been, though. Why is everyone so quick to pile on him now?

It’s not like Wilson is the first star NFL player to demand a trade and get it. It’s not like he’s the only NFL player who was unhappy in their previous situation. It’s also not like he’s the first or only NFL player to struggle immediately upon his arrival to a new city. People are obviously mad at Russ, and they’re looking for any and every way to make fun of him.

While Russ is simply doing what he’s always done, people are perceiving his actions as deliberate attempts to be obnoxious.
