Buffalo Bills 3 dream trade targets at 2022 NFL Trade Deadline
By Randy Gurzi
2. Xavier Woods, S, Carolina Panthers
Entering the season, the Bills had two of the better starting safeties in the NFL with Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Unfortunately, each suffered injuries this year with Hyde having to head to the IR with a neck injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.
Damar Hamlin and Jaquan Johnson have been playing in his place with Hamlin performing rather well. Having said that, there’s room for an upgrade and Xavier Woods is out there as a possible trade target.
Woods is a former sixth-round pick from Louisiana Tech who spent four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He developed into a solid starter and played both safety positions as well as slot corner during his tenure. Woods then headed to Minnesota in 2021 on a one-year deal.
With the Vikings, he had 108 tackles and three picks — both career highs. He parlayed that into a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, who are in the midst of a fire sale following their decision to move on from head coach Matt Rhule.
Buffalo would do well for themselves to try and pry Woods away from the Panthers, especially since he can fill in at more than one spot.
On top of that, he’s just 27 compared to Hyde being 31. With his age and the fact he’s coming off a neck injury, some insurance would be nice.
