Special teams must be special

As I mentioned earlier, the Chicago Bears dominated the Patriots in all three aspects of the game. Cairo Santos was instrumental in the game, hitting four field goals.

Santos played a big part in the 23 unanswered points the Bears put up. He scored nine points in the second and third quarters which were among the 16 points scored by the Bears. A David Montgomery touchdown run in the fourth quarter topped off the scoring.

Punter Trenton Gill wasn’t needed in the game. He had two punts that went for 81 yards. As for the returners, at least they didn’t fumble on any of their returns.

If the defense does its job and keeps the game close, this game could come down to field position and field goals. Santos has another streak going. After breaking the Bears’ all-time record for consecutive field goals made, he has now made 18 straight and 21 of his last 23 attempts. He’ll need to continue that if some of the Beras’ drives bog down and they have to go for field goals.

Gill will be important to help with field position. If he can pin the Cowboys deep in their own territory then Chicago’s defense can be a little more aggressive. They may then be able to force mistakes and easy scores.
