If you’re an NFL fan, you were aware that last week Mac Jones had a horrific game against the Chicago Bears. After just a total of 6 pass attempts, Mac Jones was benched for backup Quarterback Bailey Zappe. Immediately, Zappe gave the Patriots a much-needed energy boost, leading New England to two straight touchdown drives. New England lost, but some patriots fans thought Zappe should start against the Jets, but Bill Belichek decided to start Jones instead.
Deciding to roll with Jones could’ve turned out bad, but it ended up working instead. Jones completed 24- of-35 passes for 194 yards and 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. The Patriots scored on six of their offensive possessions. Nevertheless, Jones did just enough to lead the Patriots to victory.
When asked about Mac Jones handling the pressure on Sunday In the postgame press conference, Bill Belichick said, “I thought he made good decisions. He managed the game well; he managed our team well.”
Mac Jones’s starting job is still not safe even after the win.
Yes, Jones won. The Patriots won, but Jones wasn’t all that great. Not only did Jones have one interception. But Jones also threw a pass early in the 4th quarter that should’ve been intercepted but was dropped. Then, before halftime, Jones threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Luckily, a roughing the passer penalty negated the interception. It also needs to be mentioned that the Patriots’ defense forced three turnovers that helped set New England’s offense up with good field position.
Since the game was in New York, no boos were raining from thousands of Patriots fans. However, there is a chance Jones will be hearing them next week as the Patriots play the Indianapolis Colts. Of course, Jones will need to play better next week; if he doesn’t, his starting job will be in question again.
