Aaron Rodgers will never win another Super Bowl in Green Bay

The 2022 Green Bay Packers enter Week 10 with a record of 3-6 and recently sustained a loss to the Detroit Lions. It is clear that Aaron Rodgers’ success in Green Bay has come to an end.

It was hard to consider the Green Bay Packers to be clear-cut contenders in 2022 after the off-season they had. The Packers refused to surround their future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers with any pass-catching talent after the departure of receiver Davante Adams. Rookies Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson show promise however not enough to be consistently effective targets for Rodgers, especially with both suffering recent injuries.

Veterans Sammy Watkins, Alan Lazard, and Randall Cobb have brought some experience to the receivers group but all three have also been dealing with injuries.

The fact of the matter is the Green Bay Packers should have unequivocally done everything in their power to keep Davante Adams in Wisconsin.

Without Adams Rodgers has lost his security blanket, his trusty never-say-never pass catcher and it shows. Rodgers has thrown 7 interceptions already this season in 9 games. The last time Rodgers threw 7 interceptions was in 2016; which is how many total interceptions he threw that year.

The Packers’ defense isn’t faring much better.  Several players that were once assets such as safety Darnell Savage and cornerback Eric Stokes are now liabilities allowing huge plays and whiffing on tackles that should be completed. After the loss in Week 9 it was revealed that their top edge rusher, Rashan Gary tore his ACL while former Packer, Za’Darius Smith, is having a career season with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Packers’ defense has allowed subpar units such as the Jets, Commanders, and now the Lions to put points on the board. What makes this especially daunting is the Green Bay front office has invested so much money and draft picks into the defense and they are so underwhelming.

The special teams unit is experiencing its usual woes so much that even veteran special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia is having difficulty turning the squad around. The Packers are having issues at every phase and it shows. A unit that looked so in sync with Matt Lafleur as the head coach now looks lost. One of the top red zone offenses from 2021 is now ranked #23 in scoring, indicative of issues in personnel and play calling.

The weekly call to action is to get the ball in running back Aaron Jones’ hands more but he remains stymied as he only has ONE game with 20 carries. That came in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills where the Packers almost mounted a comeback and Jones’ had 143 rushing yards. Jones has had four games (out of nine) where he had single-digit carries despite him averaging 5.6 yards a carry ranking him 12th out of all running backs.

We are seeing more and more sideline drama between Rodgers’ visible frustration and anger along with Lafleur’s disbelief in certain plays not being properly executed. Aaron Rodgers’ decline is on national television each week and it would be surprising to see him continue to play beyond 2022 if this is the product that is being put on the field. The front office refuses to provide Rodgers with the weapons he deserves* and his play has suffered as a result.

Aaron Rodgers’s Super Bowl win in 2011 is the last Super Bowl he will win with the Green Bay Packers. At this point, they are in too deep of a pit to climb out of, and by the time the adjustments are made (if they are in fact made), he will be long retired. It is a shame as a fan of Aaron Rodgers and sports in general that a generational talent’s time frame has been wasted due to personnel additions that should have been made.

The talent is not there, the playcalling is being mishandled, and the overall chemistry and vibe in Green Bay are non-existent and painful to watch. This is the end of the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay and it is truly a criminal act that he will leave Wisconsin with one Super Bowl win (also his only appearance) after 18 seasons. Jordan Love is not the answer but it seems that neither is Aaron Rodgers.

Hopefully, the Packers learn the error of their waves and give the next quarterback of the future a chance.
