NFL Disappointments: 3. Bill Belichick isn’t the system

Matt Jones had a successful rookie season, even making the Pro Bowl as an alternate. Belichick added a decent boundary wideout in Devante Parker. They drafted a deep threat in Tyquan Thorton along with tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.

Naturally, coming into the season, Jones would take that next step — he didn’t. It all started with the re-hired of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge with the plan of having them as co-offensive coordinators. The duo was supposed to keep the offense afloat, instead, the ship is sinking. The Patriots are struggling to get anything going.

Belichick took the role as quarterbacks coach — now they have a quarterback controversy. Bailey Zappe is a Mac Jones clone, seriously they look alike. The former fourth-round pick has Belichick thinking he’s the second coming of Tom Brady, which means he wasted a first-round pick on Jones the year before.

At the end of the day, Jones is the better option, but Belichick may not feel that way for long. A quarterback carousel isn’t a good look for the Pats. No one expected the New England Patriots to light the world on fire. However, this was the year Bill Belichick would close the gap on Tom Brady, not so fast. The offense looks pathetic which makes you wonder… Was it Brady all along?
