The 2022 NFL trade deadline saw some marquee names change places, but there are some other players and teams who should have gotten in on the action.

There are buyers and sellers when it comes to NFL teams looking to change their franchises. The 2022 NFL trade deadline has come and gone with teams reshaping the outlook of their franchise. There were some shocking trades, like the Bears shipping Roquon Smith to the Ravens. And there was Calvin Ridley to Jacksonville Jaguars who is suspended for the year. However, when he comes back, he could take over as the Jags’ No. 1 and help Trevor Lawrence take the next step.

Another shocker was the Denver Broncos trading Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins. The 2019 Pro Bowl edge rusher will work well across from second-year edger rusher Jalen Phillips on a Dolphins team desperate for pass rush help.

There was also the Chase Claypool trade. The Steelers shipped him to the Chicago Bears. The Bears parted ways with a second-round pick, which means they don’t value the wideout depth of the 2023 NFL Draft class. Some players are undoubtedly envious of their NFL brethren as are some teams. After all, there are more than a few players desperate to leave their current situations for greener pastures. And some teams probably wish they were able to make a move but didn’t or couldn’t.

NFL trade deadline move that should have happened no. 5: Buffalo Bills trading for Kareem Hunt

Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beans wasn’t satisfied with their current running back situation, so he traded for Nyheim Hines (Colts) for a conditional fifth-round pick and Zack Moss. It’s a nice try, but they probably should have gone in a different direction. Kareem Hunt has been playing second fiddle to Nick Chubb since 2019. There’s no doubt Hunt wants a chance to be the No. 1 back again. We all remember what he was when playing for the Kansas City Chiefs before he was suspended and then kicked off the team. The Chiefs’ running game hasn’t been the same since. With that said, Hunt would fit seamlessly into a Bills offense that will allow him to benefit from Ken Dorsey’s RPO scheme.

Hunt is still one of the best pass-catching backs in the league. He’s also a tenacious runner who can make defenders miss. He would have brought an element to the offense that Josh Allen needs. The man does everything for the Bills’ offense. He’s not only leading the Bills in passing, but through their first eight games, he was also the teams leading rusher.

Over the years, Beane tried to bolster the backfield. He drafted Devin Singletary and Zach Moss, two guys that brought something different to the table — it didn’t work out. Like any smart GM, Beane tried a different approach, trading for a vet. After the Panthers traded Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49Niners, reports surfaced that Beane contacted the Panthers about McCaffrey. They probably should have contacted the Browns about Hunt.
