Derek Carr’s tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders could be best described as rocky. A second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the former Fresno State Bulldog holds several franchise records. Most recently, he became the only quarterback in team history to throw 200 touchdowns. Similarly, his 34,135 passing yards are the most in team history.

But in spite of Carr’s individual accomplishments, you won’t hear his name brought up often when talking heads discuss who the top quarterbacks in the league are. Some of it is due to his 60-77 record as a starter but the main reason is he simply isn’t in the same echelon as Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady.

The Raiders could trade Derek Carr and start from scratch

First-year general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels inherited Derek Carr, so they have no attachment to him. There are no reports Ziegler intends to do so but Carr is set to count $34 million against the cap and trading him would free up $29.25 million in cap space with $5.6 million in dead money.

The Raiders’ brass could trade Carr and use the savings to revamp position groups that are in need of upgrades such as the offensive line and the secondary. They could also use whatever compensation they get for Carr to draft their quarterback of their future and sign a veteran to serve as a stopgap.

Carr is an above-average quarterback and would likely be in high demand if the Raiders were to shop him next offseason. Teams that are in need of an upgrade at quarterback wouldn’t mind parting ways with a second or even a first-round selection. With that in mind, here are three quarterbacks that could land in Las Vegas next year.
