2023 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys add more defense, Seahawks grab QB
By Randy Gurzi
14. Detroit Lions: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
They got their quarterback in the first round and now, the Detroit Lions can turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball once again. In 2022, they added Aidan Hutchinson with their first pick and he’s been a great addition.
Through his first 11 games, he’s recorded 31 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He’s also been credited with 20 quarterback pressures proving to be well worth the second-overall pick.
With him drawing attention at the line of scrimmage, the Lions could use someone capable of wreaking havoc behind him. That’s where Trenton Simpson comes in as Detroit adds the most explosive linebacker in the class. Simpson is solid in coverage and can fly from one side of the field to the other. He’ll be a weapon for any team but can really do damage behind a strong D-line.
15. Atlanta Falcons: Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
Outside of Grady Jarrett, there’s no one that really gets after the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. Their lack of an edge presence has been an issue for a while and they try again to get this corrected as they take Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech.
Wilson isn’t known for elite speed on the outside but he’s excellent at run defense and can still deliver better than anyone Atlanta currently has at defensive end. He’s also capable of sliding inside on third downs if needed.
