1. Terrell Edmunds, Safety

With the last Steelers player that could be on the way out in 2023, we again look to the secondary. Terrell Edmunds was a surprise pick in 2018 when Pittsburgh took him 28th overall out of Virginia Tech.

His brother, Tremaine Edmunds, was seen as a potential star and went to Buffalo at No. 16 in that same draft but there weren’t many who thought Terrell would also go on day one.

Overall, the pick has been a good one. Edmunds is a solid tackler and has racked up 395 in his career, as well as four sacks. He isn’t elite when it comes to pass coverage but does have 24 pass defenses and five picks in his five seasons.

Having said all of that, his effectiveness hasn’t been as good over the past two years as it was in 2020 when PFF had him ranked 22nd overall at his position. That was followed up by landing at No. 70 in 2021 and 46 this year.

Pittsburgh has the cap room to bring Edmunds back but they might decide it’s time to roll the dice on a younger, and more affordable option. They’re already going to pay Fitzpatrick $18 million in 2023 so they’d surely like to find a strong safety that could play on a rookie contract — or perhaps the veteran minimum.
