When Teven Jenkins was laid on a stretcher and had to be carted off, you feared the worst for him and knew the day would be bad for the Chicago Bears.

Not exactly. Jenkins, god bless him, is likely out for an extended period of time, and the Bears did show some fight, ultimately losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 25-20. On a day when cold weather, typical weather in Chicago, found itself fused with a clear sky, you would think Chicago would have a chance.

Looking at the stat sheet and the scoreboard, yes, but retrospectively speaking, this was just the Eagles having a bad day. Let’s call it what it is, the Eagles had an off day and were probably looking forward to their Christmas Eve bout with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Chicago Bears showed fight against the Philadelphia Eagles but continue to show their flaws

Three touchdown runs by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts were enough to keep Chicago at bay. The good news for the Bears was that Justin Fields hit 1,000 rushing yards this year, joining Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson.

However, Fields was sacked six times. That goes to show that the offensive line is a significant mess. The wide receiver core is banged up, and Velus Jones Jr fumbled again. That group needs a turnover. This offseason will require at least four new starters on the offensive line and four new defensive line starters.

The amount of cap space the team has needs to be invested, as do draft picks. If this team does not get better in the trenches, they are doomed to disappoint. At 3-11, there are only three games left, and Chicago will likely lose all three.

That means they will get the No. 2 or No. 3 pick in the draft, and they should hope that whoever they select there comes and ensures this losing ends. Let’s hope better days are ahead for this group, but history may say otherwise.
