The defense needs to repeat last week’s performance

The truly incredible aspect of the game last week against the Eagles was the defensive performance. No one expected the unit to play as well as it did.

Philadelphia had the best offense coming into the game. They scored the most points and they had the fewest turnovers in the league. The Bears defense wasn’t fazed, however. They intercepted Eagles quarterback twice (he came in with three interceptions all season) and recovered a fumble.

the defense played the Eagles tough all game. They forced Hurts to make some incredible pinpoint passes and the receivers to make incredible catches. They did just that. When that happens, you just have to tip your cap to them. Chicago’s secondary was stuck on Philadelphia’s receivers on most of the big catches. There wasn’t more you could ask for from that unit.

There is something more you can ask for from the defensive front, though. The Bears need to pressure the quarterback more. I know I sound like a broken record but the Bears just aren’t getting to the quarterback. They allow quarterbacks to stand all day before finding open receivers. The defensive front has to force Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen to throw before he wants. If they do that, he could make some mistakes.

The cold weather could help the Chicago Bears defense. If it becomes too cold to throw consistently it makes their offense one-dimensional.

That dimension hasn’t been good for the Bears, however. Chicago ranks dead last in rushing touchdowns allowed and 27th in rushing yards allowed. The Bears’ defense did limit the Eagles to just 112 rushing yards, though. Philadelphia came in second to the Bears in rushing yards.

dark. Next. Week 16 picks, score predictions

If the Bears’ defense can come up with another inspired effort we could see a major upset on Saturday. Whether some in Chicago Bears Nation like that or not is another question.
