Could Rob Gronkowski return to the NFL this year in time for the NFL playoffs?

This past offseason one of the best tight ends ever to play the game called it a career when Rob Gronkowski announced he would retire. However, in today’s NFL, retirements don’t seem to last very long; this was Gronkowski’s second time retiring.

The future Hall of Famer initially retired after the 2018 season and sat out a year before playing the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Wednesday, Rob Gronkowski started to get the rumor mill firing with a simple tweet that stated he was “kinda bored”. While the 33-year-old may not have played at the level he did during the peak of his career, he showed that he can still be productive in the right environment.

While it would be a long shot for him to return if he did then these would probably be the three most likely landing spots.

The first team is pretty obvious as it was his previous team and still has the quarterback he spent almost his entire career with in Tom Brady. Even shortly after Gronkowski’s announcement his agent Drew Rosenhaus hinted at the fact that Brady probably could get him to come out of retirement with a phone call during the season.

This would certainly make sense for the Bucs as well as they are surprisingly below .500 at 6-8 but what might be even more surprising than that is that they are leading the NFC South with that record. If they can string a few wins together to close the season, they not only get a playoff spot but a home playoff game.

While the regular season hasn’t gone their way, it is not wise to count out Tom Brady come playoff time and if the Bucs can add one of his favorite targets over his career, this makes a lot of sense for both sides.
