New Orleans Saints (6-9) at Philadelphia Eagles (13-2)

Sunday, January 1, 1:00 PM ET

An injury to Jalen Hurts has proven to be the only real “setback” for the Philadelphia Eagles in the entire 2022 season. The Eagles have been dominant basically from the moment they took the field to start this season, and they played well against the Dallas Cowboys even in defeat this past weekend.

Gardner Minshew took Hurts’ place and threw for 355 yards, two touchdowns, and ran for another score. Unfortunately, he had a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble as well and the Eagles wound up losing by six points. But, if your team can post 34 points with the backup quarterback turning the ball over three times?

I mean, my goodness.

The New Orleans Saints find themselves in the unenviable position of having to travel to Philadelphia in a must-win situation. They have found a way to win enough games to stay relevant in the NFC South up to this point but their relevance could be completely destroyed as of about 4:00 PM ET on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles need to keep winning to ensure they don’t lose home-field advantage and the no. 1 seed throughout the playoffs. The biggest threat right now is Minnesota, only one loss behind the Eagles right now, but the 49ers and Cowboys are now just two games behind as well.

Whether or not the Eagles decide to give Hurts another week to rest his sprained shoulder seems borderline irrelevant at this point. I think Philadelphia’s good enough to win this game at home and get to 14-2 either way, even with the Saints having quite a bit to play for.

Prediction: Eagles win 31-17
