The Buffalo defeat was a cold pill to bear, but for the Chicago Bears, losing games at this point in the season does more good than it does damage.

With their 41-10 loss to the Detroit Lions, the Windy City inches closer and closer to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. If the script goes according to plan in Week 18, a loss to the Vikings and a Texans upset of the Colts, Chicago will get the No. 1 overall pick.

Either way, everything is going according to plan. This plan involves a top draft pick that could garner a massive haul from a desperate team that will net the Bears enough ammunition to fix the many holes on this roster.

In back-to-back weeks, Josh Allen and Jared Goff flashed against a porous Bears unit. That means the pass rush is a must in addition to the offense. But again, the Bears offense is the group that needs the most investment, specifically the offensive line.

The Chicago Bears lost to the Detroit Lions but won big in the long-term future.

The bevy of options that the Chicago Bears have at their disposal by picking No. 2 or No. 1 is palpable. Though Justin Fields has struggled immensely, the lack of talent and protection around him is below average to abysmal. The roster must change and change fast.

Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus must understand that the line of scrimmage by the Bears has been one of the worst in the league on both sides, and realistically speaking, all nine players on both sides are replaceable, and that includes Teven Jenkins, who has been the best of the bunch.

Jenkins suffered an injury against Detroit and given the extremity, it is in his best interest to rest in the season finale against the Vikings. Moreover, the Vikings still have the top spot in the NFC to play for, meaning the stakes are going to be very high next week, though the Jaguars and Titans contest will likely be moved to Sunday Night Football.

The Bears will have likely found out their fate by then. Hopefully, for them, they will have completed their mission and secured a top-two pick to help rebuild their team. Either trade down and recoup a haul of picks, or take the best player available on the board at that time, likely Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr, and kick start a potential championship rebuild.

Next. Will the Chicago Bears re-sign David Montgomery or let him walk in 2023?. dark
