2022 NFL picks, score predictions for Week 18
New York Jets (7-9) at Miami Dolphins (8-8)
Sunday, January 8, 1:00 PM ET
The poor New York Jets have kept their nightmare of a streak alive. This team isn’t going to the playoffs for 12 straight years now. It’s just brutal, especially considering there was a point there during the season when the Jets looked like one of the best teams in the NFL, and legitimately so.
Remember, this team was winning with Zach Wilson at the QB position. It was really the injury in Denver to running back Breece Hall that crushed this Jets’ offense and took away one of the team’s best shots to end the playoff drought in years.
Alas, we enter Week 18 action with the Jets having lost five straight games and the Miami Dolphins not much better. In fact, not any better. The Dolphins have also lost five straight games, but they had luckily won one more game than the Jets prior to both of these teams going on horribly timed losing streaks.
While the Jets can’t end their streak of missing the playoffs this season, the Dolphins can still get to the postseason with a little bit of help. There’s only one available playoff spot in the AFC outside of the AFC South championship game on Saturday, and it looks like it could very well come down to one of two AFC East teams.
Miami Dolphins playoff scenario in Week 18
- Dolphins win AND
- Patriots lose to Bills
So, if the Patriots win this weekend in Buffalo, the Dolphins can forget about it and the duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, one of the most exciting receiver duos in the game today, will be watching the postseason from home.
Miami absolutely has to win against the Jets or they’re out pretty much regardless. There’s no room for error in Week 18. The question is, what’s the situation with Tua Tagovailoa and how is that going to impact the Dolphins going up against a Jets team whose sole purpose now is to ruin at least one of their division rival’s playoff hopes?
Prediction: Dolphins win 20-16
