2023 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys stock up offense, Panthers reach at QB

15. Green Bay Packers: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
Now on the clock, the Green Bay Packers bring in Michael Mayer from Notre Dame. The most polished tight end in the class, Mayer has very few holes in his game and that makes him one of the safest picks in this class.
Mayer is a polished route runner and can hold his own as an in-line blocker as well. He played for three seasons at South Bend and had 180 receptions for 2,099 yards with 18 touchdowns.
For a while, it seemed as though the Packers were going to have to target a wide receiver in Round 1. They were struggling to find anyone who could be the No. 1 guy but then, Christian Watson turned a corner.
The second-round pick started to find his rhythm and turned into a trusted target for Aaron Rodgers. Going forward, he should get even better and now, they have someone capable of winning in the middle of the field.
Green Bay apparently tried to trade for Las Vegas tight end Darren Waller twice this past year — once during the Davante Adams trade and then again at the deadline — so they have plans for a pass-catching tight end in their offense.
