2023 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys stock up offense, Panthers reach at QB

24. Los Angeles Chargers: Joey Porter, Jr., CB, Penn State
Even with the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders disappointing this season, the AFC West has a lot of talent at wide receiver to deal with. That’s why the Los Angeles Chargers added J.C. Jackson in free agency. He hardly saw the field this season due to injury, but even if he’s healthy in 2023, they can use another corner on the outside.
Joey Porter, Jr. is who they tab to fill that void, and he brings excellent size and a full — but untapped — toolbox with him. Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network points to his length and ability to press at the line of scrimmage while discussing how good he can be with more experience.
"“Joey Porter Jr. might be the longest cornerback in the country. He’s got incredible reach and influence inside the contact window and at the line of scrimmage. For someone who is still so inexperienced at the college level, it is exciting to think about what additional untapped potential awaits Porter Jr. as he collects more experience and adds more tools to his toolbox to pair with his athletic potential.” — Crabbs, The Draft Network"
The Chargers put a lot on Justin Herbert and it might be tempting to get him more offensive help, but they have weapons — when healthy. Porter helps keep the scores from getting out of control, which can also help their young quarterback.
