2023 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys stock up offense, Panthers reach at QB
By Randy Gurzi
4. Indianapolis Colts: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
With C.J. Stroud going first overall, the Indianapolis end up bringing in Bryce Young at No. 4 — of course, with trades not being predicted, it’s unlikely to go down this way. Chicago is surely going to make a move and the Colts could be buyers.
This offseason, they went out and traded for Matt Ryan just one year after trading for Carson Wentz. And that was one year after signing Philip Rivers. There’s no way they want to keep playing the veteran quarterback carousel, especially with how poorly it went the past two seasons.
Young, who might concern some with his size, is still a magician on the field. If the Colts protect him, he could end up being a superstar. The only thing that might stop him is Jim Irsay, who likes to do crazy things like hire Jeff Saturday as the interim coach despite his complete absence of experience in the coaching ranks.
They’ll surely be looking for a new coach this offseason but the success — or lack thereof — going forward is going to fall on the shoulders of their quarterback. They went so long with Peyton Manning and then Andrew Luck that it feels weird to see them struggle. Perhaps, this ends it.
