Predicting the entire 2022 NFL Playoffs: 1990s rematch in store
By Randy Gurzi
AFC Championship
Buffalo Bills (2) at Kansas City Chiefs (1)
Last season, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs gave us a game to remember. Buffalo gave the Chiefs all they had as Josh Allen and Gabriel Davis each had the best game of their respective careers.
They then saw Kansas City tie things up despite having just 13 seconds to go. The offense had to stay on the sideline as Patrick Mahomes led them to the winning touchdown and the Bills were eliminated. Now, they get their revenge as they win this one by three, with a late field goal in regulation.
Prediction: Buffalo 41, Kansas City 38
NFC Championship
Dallas Cowboys (5) at San Francisco 49ers (3)
Brock Purdy will always be able to look back on this rookie season and be proud of what he accomplished. The 49ers had to turn to him after multiple injuries under center and he’s been poised beyond expectations.
Having said that, the luck runs out as he makes a late mistake to give the game away. The Cowboys wind up getting revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago and make it to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995.
Prediction: Dallas 20, San Francisco 16
Super Bowl LVII
Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys
Just getting to the Super Bowl isn’t enough, just ask the Bills. They did it four times in a row in the 1990s and each time, they lost to a member of the NFC East. The final two were against the Dallas Cowboys.
There will be some nostalgia here due to that but no players on either team will care about the past. They’ll be focused on securing their own legacies. While Dallas does have what it takes to upset a few teams in the NFC, they’re not there yet when it comes to some of the AFC talent. That’s why they fall short as Josh Allen and the Bills hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Prediction: Buffalo 34, Dallas 23
