5 Potential trade destinations for DeAndre Hopkins in 2023
DeAndre Hopkins destination no. 2: Green Bay Packers
Well, it’s that time of year again. We are all waiting to see if Aaron Rodgers returns for another season. The Green Bay Packers famously traded away Rodgers’ favorite target, Davante Adams, to the Las Vegas Raiders. The move was a shock but ultimately came down to Adams’ wish to go to the desert. Rodgers was left without the best receiver in the draft and had to make do with an assortment of rookies and run-down free agents. What isn’t a shock is that the Packers failed to make the playoffs with that receiving group and lost the NFC North title to the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers signing DeAndre Hopkins makes sense for many reasons. The Packers notoriously will not select a receiver for Rodgers in the first round (they haven’t since 2002) and they likely won’t this year either. Welcoming Hopkins onto their roster would keep Rodgers in Green Bay for at least another season. Adding one of the top receivers in the league to the squad would also provide an example for the younger receivers, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, who need additional time and leadership.
Hopkins would help the franchise keep their generational quarterback in place and install a top receiver into their offensive plays to help them compete with the other NFC North teams that already have one. The Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions both have their top receivers, Justin Jefferson and Amon St Brown, respectively. Both teams beat the Packers (the Lions twice) and it is likely that the Bears could target Hopkins as well.
Not to mention wide receivers Alan Lazard and Randall Cobb are going to be free agents in 2023 the team is going to be in need of reliable targets. If the Packers really want to make a Super Bowl for Aaron Rodgers “last” season they need to get DeAndre Hopkins on a snowmobile headed for Green Bay immediately.
