Well, the Chicago Bears‘ 2022 season is finally over. After 18 weeks of joy and frustration, we take a look at the season.

This was another disappointing season. The Bears finished 3-14 and lost their final ten games. The season began well, however. Despite offensive deficiencies, Chicago started the season winning two of their first three games. That included an upset of the San Francisco 49ers, a Super Bowl-contending team.

Chicago Bears 2022 season in review: The offense

However, things went downhill after that. While the offense took a step forward, the wins did not happen. Additionally, the defense regressed. After starting out strong, the unit got hit with injuries and opponents started to gash them.

Now that the season is over, general manager Ryan Poles and his front office turn their attention to starting the rebuild in earnest. As Poles mentioned in his press conference, the 2022 season was solely to lay the foundation of the rebuild. He cleared contracts and acquired draft picks to give him the flexibility to make moves this offseason.

As a reward, Poles and the Chicago Bears have the top overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Poles can trade that pick and acquire even more picks, not only for the upcoming draft but also in next year’s draft.

Poles will now entertain what is sure to be numerous offers for that pick. He’ll also receive offers for his other picks. Remember, he converted just five picks in this year’s draft into 11 and still kept his two second-round picks.

It will be interesting to see what Poles does with his eight (for now) picks. Furthermore, he will also have the highest amount of salary cap space in the league. That means he could be in on just about any free agent he wants.

For now, let’s review the team’s performance this past season.
