Chicago Bears 2022 review: Quarterbacks

While Poles was setting the 2022 season to be a foundation for the rebuild, he and everyone else wanted to see some development from Fields. He had some dismal moments in his rookie season. If Fields could show development then it bodes well for the rebuild.

Having to start a rebuild with a franchise quarterback already in place helps Poles strengthen the roster. The quarterback is the most important piece and if a team already has that piece it makes life so much easier.

Well, Fields showed that he is a playmaker. He made some incredible plays, both on the ground and in the air. The problem was that he couldn’t make enough plays in the passing game. Again, not having the proper receivers or protection had an effect. However, everyone admits that he needs to improve in that area. It was one of the first things Poles mentioned when talking about the young quarterback.

Fields did show glimpses of what he could do. He made some incredible throws downfield and showed that he is deadly throwing on the run. With a season under Getsy’s system and additional weapons and protection, that should be the next step he takes, and becomes an all-around threat for years.

Fields’ backups weren’t special. Trevor Siemian and Nathan Peterman started the two games Fields missed but they were unable to move the ball. Tim Boyle was signed late in the season and played some in the season finale. He had as many interceptions, two, as he had completions, though.

Next. Potential trade destinations for DeAndre Hopkins. dark

Siemian has a lot of experience under his belt so if any of Fields’ backups returns, it will likely be him. However, Poles will probably bring in other veterans to fight for that backup role. Grade: C+
