After another bad season in the Mile High City, the Denver Broncos could be poised to make massive changes to the roster yet again in 2023. Although, those massive changes won’t likely include moving on from quarterback Russell Wilson. The team really can’t move on from Wilson and frankly, they’re very unlikely to do it even if it is “possible” in some way after the mega extension he was given last August.

The Broncos aren’t going to pay $124 million for four months of Russell Wilson. The reality is, changes will come to the rest of the roster, and there are plenty of players who were on the expiring year of their contracts in 2022 that have likely played their last games with the team. There are perhaps other players whose contracts will cause them to be let go as cap casualties.

Let’s take a look at five players that have likely played their last games with the Denver Broncos as the team searches for its next head coach.

1. Dalton Risner, offensive guard

The Denver Broncos drafted Dalton Risner in the second round of what appeared to be a legendary 2019 NFL Draft class. The Broncos traded down with the Steelers in that draft, added some additional selections, and still managed to come away with three guys who had first-round grades for many people (Noah Fant, Drew Lock, Dalton Risner).

Now, that trio of selections is about to be completely off the roster after last year’s Russell Wilson trade sent Lock and Fant to the Seahawks. Risner’s time with the Broncos has been mixed in terms of the results. During his rookie season, he looked like a total gift from the football gods for a team that was sorely lacking in quality offensive linemen at the time.

Over the last three years, his play hasn’t been as strong and he maybe had his worst season in 2022, at least in terms of pass protection.

Risner is a young player with a lot of starts under his belt. He has played strictly left guard in the NFL but he came into the NFL with a reputation for versatility. I think he’ll get more money than the Broncos would or even should pay on the open market.
