In the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs, one “pretender” had to fall, right?
All season long, that’s what we’ve been hearing about the Giants and Vikings. These are two teams that have found ways to win even if it means winning ugly. The Vikings came into the postseason 11-0 in one-score games, while the Giants had seemingly captured lightning in a bottle early in the season only to really have to grind it out in the second half.
They won just enough games to get into the postseason while the Vikings won a ton of games and still not everyone was sure they were for real.
I think the Vikings were disrespected a little too much, but there is a reason why I chose the Giants to win that game. New York’s offense has hit something of a stride recently and defensively, Wink Martindale is scheming up a lot of creative ways to get pressure on the quarterback.
But the Giants aren’t in Minneapolis anymore. The Philadelphia Eagles are a familiar foe for the Giants here and they have already beaten the Giants twice. Can they do it a third time?
That’s going to be brutally tough.
The Giants are playing some good complementary football right now as a team. The Eagles have been doing that all year at the highest possible level.
They may have the league MVP in Jalen Hurts, and Hurts has no shortage of studs to get the ball to. The Eagles have played outstanding defensively this season, but you can’t help but wonder if the third time will be the charm for the Giants…
I’ve been wrong about Brian Daboll’s crew a lot this season with my NFL picks, and I might be wrong again here, but I’m taking the Giants in one more upset.
Prediction: Giants win 31-30
