Predicting NFC West head coaches in 2023

Seattle Seahawks: Pete Carroll

There’s no denying it — Pete Carroll is a really good coach. He’s got to be under consideration for NFL coach of the year in 2022 after the Seahawks traded away Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos and still went to the playoffs. At the very least, Seattle has to feel validated for committing to their guy.

Carroll does a great job with talent development and there’s no better example of that than this team’s most recent NFL Draft class, with seemingly 20 starters and impact players. The Seahawks are in good hands.

San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Shanahan

Kyle Shanahan is flat-out the best offensive mind in the game. If you disagree that he’s not the best, you can’t argue that he’s in the top two or three. The guy simply knows how to call an offense.

You could argue that he has never done a better coaching job than we’ve seen from him in 2022 with the 49ers, who lost Trey Lance, then lost Jimmy Garoppolo, and still might win a baker’s dozen games in a row to become Super Bowl champions.

The 49ers’ offense has seemingly taken the next step with Brock Purdy under center. His rapid development has been nothing short of miraculous.
