Predicting AFC South head coaches in 2023

Houston Texans: Jonathan Gannon (replacing Lovie Smith)

The Houston Texans are in the midst of yet another coaching search after hiring David Culley and Lovie Smith in the last two years consecutively. The decision to fire those two guys and not give them a real shot to be the long-term option has certainly ruffled some feathers.

As of last offseason, Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was considered a strong contender for the Houston job but just perhaps needed one more additional year of seasoning. The Texans might be more inclined to pull the trigger on a long-term deal with Gannon after watching his Eagles defense rise and dominate for the majority of the 2022 season.

Indianapolis Colts: Raheem Morris (replacing Jeff Saturday)

The strength of the Indianapolis Colts at the moment is their defense. They have playmakers at every level and there’s no question that they can build on that going forward.

Raheem Morris has been a successful assistant for a really long time in this league and has undoubtedly grown a ton since he got his first head coach opportunity back in 2009 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We’ve seen him excel greatly as a defensive coordinator, helping the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl last season and if he were to come to the Colts, I think we’d see him bring a great staff with him and I think his experience working on both sides of the ball since he was a head coach can undoubtedly help him as the manager of the whole operation this time around.
