For some fans the idea of Raheem Mostert being the odd man out sucks. After all, the 27 years old, had a dynamic bounce-back year in 2022, showcasing his speed and agility on the field. He proved to be a valuable asset to the team, working well in the zone-blocking scheme and providing a consistent presence in the running game, as expected.

However, despite his impressive performance this season, it’s likely that Mostert will not be returning to the Dolphins. The reason for this is simple: money. Mostert’s youth and dynamic ability on the field will likely lead to him demanding a bigger contract than the Dolphins are willing to spend on a non-premium position like running back. Teams like Chicago, or Carolina could look to add a dynamic back in free agency. The Steelers could use someone like Mosert as a running mate for Najee Harris.

This is not to say that Mostert is not a valuable player, but rather that the Dolphins have to make difficult financial decisions in order to build a strong and sustainable team. With the salary cap expected to be tight, the team will have to make some tough choices about which players to keep and which players to let go.

In this case, it makes sense for the Dolphins to let Mostert go and look for a running back who can bring more power and consistency to the zone-blocking scheme. This may mean looking to the draft or free agency for a player who can fill this role at a more affordable price.
