3. Cooper Rush, QB

Who can forget the storm Cooper Rush caused when he went from backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys to starter filling in for an injured Dak Prescott?

There was a stretch where he was on fire, proving himself to be a capable starter when given the chance. Rush has stepped up and led the Cowboys to a 4-1 record. Rush’s performance was so good, some wondered if he should’ve stayed the starter. That was a bit of a stretch.

Still, Rush’s streak featured flashes of vindicating the idea that he’s ready to be a starter in the NFL. One of those flashes came on a Monday night comeback against the New York Giants. When given the opportunity Rush proved why a team should take a flyer on him. A team with salary cap space may want to pay a high price for a guy who can come in and compete for a starting job. At the very least he could sign for more money on a team where he knows he has a legit shot.

Rush’s performance on the field has earned him a new contract. Unfortunately, with the Cowboys having limited cap space, it’s unlikely that they will be able to afford him as a backup.
