5 trades to shake up the 2023 NFL season

2. Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets
As Aaron Rodgers continues to do everything he can to morph into Brett Favre, he’s now gone from considering retirement to flat-out looking at a potential new home. And just like Favre, the rumor is that the Packers have no intention of sending him to an NFC team, meaning the AFC is the most likely outcome — with the New York Jets standing out as front runners.
Of course, the Jets were the ones who landed Favre in 2008 as the 39-year-old spent one season with Gang Green. He led them to a 9-7 record before heading to Minnesota for two final seasons.
Rodgers, who will turn 40 next season, is fresh off an 8-9 record but still played well with 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns against 12 picks. It wasn’t the normal production we’re used to seeing from the former MVP but he also didn’t have a great supporting cast for much of the season.
With the Jets, that wouldn’t be the case. They have some talent in Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis as well as a decent backfield, especially if Breece Hall returns to health. They also have a great defense and were headed toward the postseason before Zach Wilson and Mike White began to struggle under center.
Rodgers could be the missing piece for this team as they look to become relevant under Robert Saleh. The only question is whether he re-writes the narrative and stays for more than one season, or if he continues to mirror Favre and heads to Minnesota in 2024.
