5 Cowboys free agents who could follow Kellen Moore to Chargers

2. Dalton Schultz, Tight End
Again, the Chargers are far from comfortable in terms of cap space, but we’ve seen teams free up millions of dollars by spending more. It makes no sense, but that’s how it goes with the cap.
Right now, they’re entering season four with Justin Herbert and the young quarterback will be trying to get a new contract for himself very soon. If the Chargers really want to go all-in while he’s on his rookie deal, the time is now.
That brings us to Dalton Schultz, who would be a huge addition to this offense.
Schultz would be an upgrade over Gerald Everett as he’s developed into a real weapon in the passing game. He battled injuries for much of the 2022 season but still had 57 receptions for 577 yards and five touchdowns.
He continued to prove his worth when he pulled in seven passes for 95 yards and two scores in their playoff win over Tampa Bay and had the only touchdown in their loss to the 49ers the following weekend.
Dallas has been unable to find the right contract for Schultz, who played on the franchise tag this past season. They also added Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot, preparing themselves for life without No. 86.
It would surely be a mistake to let one of Dak Prescott’s favorite targets walk in the offseason, but the Jones family isn’t afraid to make mistakes — they’ve been making them since the 1990s. Kellen Moore and the Chargers would be thrilled if they made one more, especially if it ended with Schultz wearing the baby blue.
