I admit, this isn’t the most exciting pickup, but the Commanders need an edge rusher. Melvin Ingram has ties to the Eric Bieniemy with their brief tenure together with the Kansas City Chiefs. Ingram is still a solid edge rusher, managing six sacks with the Miami Dolphins. He also had seven tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits. The former Chargers has played in all fronts as a traditional defense end and a standup backer.

Ingram’s physical abilities are still top-notch, even as he ages. He’s always been a powerful and explosive athlete, and that hasn’t changed. Ingram is still quick off the snap and has the ability to explode past offensive tackles to get to the quarterback. And he’s still a physical player who can use his strength to overpower blockers and make plays in the running game.

Culture matters and Ingram is a leader on and off the field. He’s a respected player in the locker room and leads by example. He’s a hard worker who sets the tone for the rest of the team. This leadership can be especially valuable for a team that is looking to build a strong culture and develop young players.
