5. Build a foundation, re-sign your own guys

Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot has the responsibility to turn this team into a contender. It starts with keeping the guys that can help the Flacons win. The Falcons have a ton of free agents they need to bring back, but their priority should be on two guys, offensive tackle Kaleb McGary and linebacker Rashaan Evans.

Letting McGary walk is not an option. Sure, they can reach for a right tackle in the draft, but why?  A year after playing on the franchise tag, McGary has shown vast improvement. So, why let him walk if he’s shown how important he is to the Falcons? Good teams are built on a foundation, especially when it comes to the trenches.

Rashaan Evans is one of the best tacklers in the NFL. The Falcons are not in a position to lose players, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Evans was reunited with Arthur Smith, who were both with the Titans, who were perennial playoff contenders — again, culture matters. If Terry Fontenot has to pay their guys a little over their market value, he should. The Falcons have holes to fill, so there’s no need to let good players walk.

Both Rashaan Evans and Kaleb McGary are players the Falcons need to have on their roster. Do it, and you’re one step closer to the Super Bowl.
