The Dallas Cowboys are currently over the 2023 NFL salary cap by almost $8 million. But there’s no need to worry because the NFL salary cap is sort of like the show Whose Line is It Anyway? Everything’s made up and the points don’t matter. It’s easy in today’s NFL to manipulate the salary cap, and teams are certainly not caught off guard when these kinds of figures pop up.

The Dallas Cowboys can’t really afford to sit on their hands this offseason, anyway. This team feels close to being one of the truly elite in the NFC, but they might be missing a piece or two. The Cowboys could release longtime tackle Tyron Smith and save almost $10 million. They can do some restructures, and they could even make a slightly surprising move and let go of Zeke Elliott.

We’re operating within the realm of realism here, but we’re also doing some dreaming. Who would be the Dallas Cowboys’ top three dream targets in 2023 NFL free agency? Let’s take a look.

As long as you’re dreaming, you might as well dream big, right? The Dallas Cowboys have been pegged as a landing spot for some cornerbacks in recent 2023 NFL mock draft scenarios, and if cornerback is arguably this team’s top target in the 2023 offseason, then why not go after one of the biggest names in the league?

What kind of deal would be required to get Ramsey out of Los Angeles? A blockbuster, no doubt. Even with Jalen Ramsey coming off of his age 28 season and approaching 30, it would cost Dallas at least a couple of first-round picks and then some to land this type of a player.

And honestly, why not?

What good is it doing the Cowboys as of this exact moment in time to hoard draft picks? You could argue that they have a QB on a second contract and therefore those picks are building blocks, and you’d be right, but sometimes you’ve got to make sacrifices to swing big if you feel your team is in a window to win. Jalen Ramsey would be a home run type of swing.
