3. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Arizona Cardinals

Rumors have been running rampant this offseason that the Arizona Cardinals are making plans to move on from former blockbuster trade acquisition DeAndre Hopkins. Actually, it felt like the Cardinals got themselves a bargain at the time when Bill O’Brien and the Texans simply dumped Hopkins off, but a blockbuster deal involving a superstar player, nonetheless.

Hopkins has somewhat proven that O’Brien was right to not give in to his contract demands at the time, as he’s missed 15 games over the last two seasons and has just one year with over 1,000 receiving yards with the Cardinals.

He opened last year with a suspension, so it’s not like he simply has been an injury risk all this time, but Hopkins is now on the wrong side of 30 and hasn’t had a great season statistically since 2020.

Does that sound like much of a dream acquisition to you? Probably not, but Hopkins’ value shouldn’t be too high right now, which could make him a dream acquisition for the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys made a massive mistake in 2022, letting Amari Cooper go for a bag of Lays potato chips and watching him have a pretty great season in Cleveland.

Meanwhile, Dallas struggled with depth at receiver all year.

Even when Michael Gallup came back from injury, CeeDee Lamb was doing too much heavy lifting, and it’s become abundantly clear that the Cowboys need to do something rather big at receiver. That could be trading for DeAndre Hopkins and/or signing Odell Beckham Jr. Those would be worthwhile risks for this team to take.

Given the window this team is in, skimping on Dak Prescott’s weapons would be about as foolish as it gets for Dallas in 2023.
