In what seems to be a cost-cutting move for cap reasons, the Rams are releasing Bobby Wagner after signing him a year ago. It is unknown whether the Rams are making a separate deal with Wagner but they want to get him to a competitive team.

According to Spotrac, the Rams will save $5 million in the salary cap if he is released outright. This move doesn’t signify a rebuild for the Rams because trade cap hits do not enable them to trade players such as Leonard Floyd or Aaron Donald.

As pointed out, the Rams aren’t exactly able to go into a rebuild. They are still paying the costs of the super bowl win and going all-in last season which has left them in a bad cap situation. Jalen Ramsey may be on the move this off-season.

Bobby Wagner is still an amazing linebacker in this league. He becomes an intriguing name on the market after a season where he was named all-pro. It seems that Wagner will try and go to a contender.

What teams could Bobby Wagner end up with?

The first team that comes to mind is the Giants. The Giants have tons of cap space and plenty of ways to create more cap space (via restructuring potential of Over the cap) New York has other needs at wide receivers and corners but if Joe Schoen wants to value the linebacker position adding Wagner would be a way to go.

If the Eagles aren’t able to keep their free agents at linebacker (T.J Edwards and Kyzir White) and Wagner is able to take a pay cut in order to go for another ring, then a match in Philadelphia might make sense.

Next. Lamar Jackson trade seeming more likely by the day. dark

Buffalo would be a very intriguing option as the Bills are contending and in need of linebackers. The Bills would need to restructure some contracts but they do have the potential to do so. Still, adding an All-Pro like Wagner will allow them to have a chance to get to the Super Bowl.
