3. Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of a tremendous year as NFC North champions. They weren’t satisfied with the performance of the defense under coordinator Ed Donatell, however, so they moved on to Brian Flores. Flores spent last season as an assistant on Mike Tomlin’s staff with the Pittsburgh Steelers and it didn’t take long for interest in Flores to drum up around the league.

He interviewed for a number of big-time jobs in the offseason and chose Minnesota. It just so happens that he chose a situation where the coordinator wasn’t the only issue. The Vikings need to make some changes to the personnel defensively and they might lose veteran Patrick Peterson in free agency. Actually, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Vikings’ whole secondary was reloaded a bit this offseason.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made some substantial moves last year to try and upgrade that unit with draft picks like Lewis Cine and Andrew Booth Jr., but Jalen Ramsey would be a true centerpiece for Flores on that side of the ball.

The Vikings have a need at corner. Their new, big-name DC needs more pieces. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell just so happened to coach with the Rams where Ramsey has been a star for the last handful of years.

As far as the cost to acquire, the Vikings face maybe the biggest hurdles here. They pick 24th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, they need to clear more than $21 million in cap space just to break even, and they’re going to have to convince the Rams to trade him to another contender in-conference.

There are hurdles to clear, but getting Ramsey in Minneapolis would be a massive start to the offseason for the Vikings.
