AFC North quarterback predictions in 2023 NFL offseason

Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow

Potential backup options: Brandon Allen, draft pick

As far as the purposes of this post (which is meant to be a fun look at what could be), the Cincinnati Bengals are a snooze-fest. This team is in such a great spot at the starting QB position that most teams simply look on with envy.

For my money, I would put Joe Burrow on the same echelon as players like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Is he as dynamic athletically? No, but he doesn’t need to be. Burrow has the Tom Brady-like competitiveness that will give him an edge for the entirety of his career. When you watch Joe Burrow play, you can feel how much he hates losing.

That’s such a desirable trait in a quarterback.

Burrow spreads the ball around as well as any quarterback in the league. He turned around the Bengals organization as quickly as you will see any player make that big of a difference. Burrow’s ascent since the 2019 season began for him at LSU seems to be ongoing. It doesn’t feel like he’s plateaued — he’s simply getting better and better.

Behind Burrow, maybe the Bengals will bring back Brandon Allen. Maybe they will look to the 2023 NFL Draft to get someone else in the building and develop under Zac Taylor and Brian Callahan. Whatever ends up happening, the Bengals are in a great spot with Burrow.
