5. DJ Chark, Detroit Lions

I guess I’m a card-carrying member of the DJ Chark fan club at this point. I simply cannot quit Chark because this man was so great in 2019 when he made the Pro Bowl for the Jaguars. Everyone is understandably enamored by his size at 6-foot-4 and his deep speed, which is in the 4.3 range. Chark’s overall game and physical makeup is something every NFL team would love to have. He was a nice luxury for the Detroit Lions in his lone season there but he didn’t recapture that Pro Bowl magic.

I’m not sure he ever will. Maybe DJ Chark’s ceiling at this point is Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. Valdes-Scantling was a valuable piece of the Chiefs’ passing game in 2022. What I’m saying is that perhaps he’s best suited now as a third or fourth option where his big-play abilities can be effective without being a non-negotiable piece of the offense.

4. Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers

Where will Allen Lazard land in 2023 NFL free agency? I actually have some thoughts on that. The Jets make so much sense for Lazard if he’s going to leave Green Bay, where he could reunite with Nathaniel Hackett whose offense really enhances what Lazard brings to the table. He’s not going to be your WR1. He’s not a “Hall of Famer” as Aaron Rodgers jokingly called him in the offseason.

What Lazard is? He’s a tremendous big slot who gives great effort as a blocker and in today’s NFL, there’s undoubtedly a place for him. You might not be getting a 100-reception monster here, but Lazard is someone who will make your team better.
