2023 NFL free agency: Ranking the top 10 wide receivers
3. Odell Beckham Jr., Free Agent
Have I mentioned that a lot of the guys that hit NFL Free Agency do so because they can’t stay healthy? Odell Beckham Jr.’s career has been very unfortunately derailed by injuries. I don’t know that anything besides injuries could have really clipped his wings as much as they have. Beckham has one of the most well-rounded games of any receiver in the league in terms of being a guy you can rely on with a high volume of targets, playing inside or out, his abilities after the catch, and his playmaking abilities down the field.
In his prime, Beckham was a true superstar and it’s a shame we haven’t gotten to see that guy as much in recent years.
Still, it was barely a year ago when Beckham was the guy who scored the first TD in the Super Bowl. He’s not a 38-year-old has-been who has nothing left in the tank. Beckham will be fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered in the Super Bowl last year and should be an impact pickup for some team. You might have to overpay a little bit for the name, but I think whatever price Beckham Jr. is going for this offseason will end up being a bargain, quite frankly.
2. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kansas City Chiefs
I struggle a bit to put JuJu Smith-Schuster this high on the list, because I don’t know that you’re really getting a game-changer here if you sign him. I think the reason why JuJu Smith-Schuster is so highly ranked on NFL free agency lists at receiver is twofold.
Number one, I think he has a high floor at the position.
Number two, he was the most productive guy on the Chiefs this past season.
That’s not nothing but how much is it going to be worth for a team that signs him? I think Smith-Schuster can be an effective second or third option in the passing game. He caught over 77 percent of his passes this past season and that’s huge. He caught over 75 percent two years ago in Pittsburgh as well.
Again, I think Smith-Schuster is a high-floor type of signing, but a low-ceiling kind of signing as well. He’ll make some plays for you, but best-served at a second or third option.
