 5. Minnesota Vikings  cut Harrison Smith

One of the cutthroat decisions could be cutting veteran safety, Harrison Smith. Yeah, this will hurt to see the six-time Pro Bowl safety hit the market, but the Vikings have bigger fish to fry. For starters, the Vikings had a terrible defense and Smith’s play was part of the problem. While he did manage to record five interceptions, his yield rate was 80%, the worst of his career. Smith’s coverage has significantly regressed, making him a liability for the team.

Adding to the issue is the emergence of young talent like Lewis Cine, who could potentially move over to the strong safety position. This move would make Smith expendable, and the Vikings could benefit from much-needed cap relief. Designating Smith as a post-June 1 cut would result in a staggering $15.21 million in cap space.

The Vikings need to make some significant changes to their roster to get back on track, and cutting Smith could be the first step in that direction. While Smith has been a significant contributor to the Vikings’ success over the years, the team needs to make tough decisions to move forward.

Smith’s release would not only provide cap space but also open up opportunities for young players to step up and prove their worth. The Vikings’ defense has struggled this season, and it’s time to make changes to fix the issue.
