8. Los Angeles Rams trading away Jalen Ramsey

The Los Angeles Rams have certainly found themselves in a very intriguing situation here in the 2023 NFL offseason, haven’t they? Rumors have emerged recently that star cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be traded in the 2023 offseason, which might not be the worst thing for the Rams. This is a team that doesn’t have a first-round pick in 2023, nothing new to general manager Les Snead, but certainly something that has limited this team’s ability to really build a strong roster core over the last handful of years.

Where have we seen the lack of top draft picks come back to bite the Rams the most? You probably have to start on the offensive line where the losses of Andrew Whitworth (LT) and Austin Corbett (RG) were detrimental this past season.

The Rams won the Super Bowl just a year ago, and this team is certainly not devoid of talent, by any means. They have maximized their draft positioning quite well, and we know the Rams are always good for a big splash or two every offseason. Les Snead is aggressive.

So trading away Jalen Ramsey? Well, that feels like an admission of throwing in the towel to many, but Ramsey is a high-value piece that could land the Rams an important couple of building blocks in the 2023 offseason.

Trading away Ramsey is not a do-or-die situation for the Rams in terms of — if they trade him, they are doomed. I think quite the opposite. I think as this team gets healthy, and gets back pieces like Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp offensively…I think having a fresh batch of NFL Draft capital, additional cap space, and a newfound chip on their shoulder after finishing with one of the worst records in the league last year could really motivate this team.

It seems counter-intuitive that trading Jalen Ramsey could really be the best thing for the Rams, but as of right now, it’s a do-or-die situation with the future looming large for this Rams team.
