10 nightmare targets for Denver Broncos in free agency – Defense

6. Deion Jones, ILB

The Denver Broncos could use an additional body at inside linebacker as Alex Singleton is a free agent and Josey Jewell has been on an off the field with injuries lately.  Even though the ILB spot in the NFL isn’t nearly as valuable as it once was, they are the patrolmen of the defense and usually the ones wearing the green dot.

However, Deion Jones would be an awful target for the Broncos.  Ever since his breakout 2017 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, Jones has not seemed to be able to catch that fire he once had and I’m afraid at this point the nameplate is what might be keeping him relevant.

7. Jadeveon Clowney, DE

The Broncos could use a boost with their pass rush as they traded Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins and were not able to get much from Randy Gregory.

The last player the team should sign is Jadeveon Clowney.  Clowney was the top pick back in the 2014 NFL Draft and hasn’t ever been able to live up to that hype.  He’s never had a season with more than 21 QB hits or 9.5 sacks, and even with playing opposite Myles Garrett in Cleveland the past two seasons, Clowney has only been able to sack the QB 11 times in 26 total games.

As a pass rusher, the Denver Broncos can find better in free agency.

8. Ndamukong Suh, DT

OK, so I’ve been a big proponent of the Broncos needing to bolster their defensive line, and I’ve specifically mentioned Ndamukong Suh on many occasions.  However, at this point in his career, even if he still wants to keep playing, I am opposed to the idea of the Broncos signing him.

He’s 36 years old, which is extremely old for any position outside of the offensive line, specialists, or quarterbacks, and he’s clearly not the player he once was.  I do think he can serve as an effective rotational piece, but the Broncos could need up to two starters on their defensive front, and while Suh has been one of the better DTs this generation, he is over the hump.
